Die casting is the process of forcing molten metal under high pressure into mold cavities (which are machined into dies). Most die castings are made from non-ferrous metals, specifically zinc, copper, aluminium, magnesium, lead, and tin based alloys , but ferrous metal die castings are possible. The die casting method is especially suited for applications where a large quantity of small to medium sized parts are needed with good detail, a fine surface quality and dimensional consistency. This level of versatility has placed die castings among the highest volume products made in the metalworking industry.
In recent years, injection-molded plastic parts have replaced some die castings because they are cheaper and lighter.Plastic parts are a practical alternative if hardness is not required and little strength is needed.

Metal casting: I am relatively new to the casting realm. It started with my buddy’s dad agreeing to teach me to carve Kentucky muzzleloading rifles. He used to cast his own butt plates, trigger guards, and inlays out of brass and a little silver. I also had an arrow head that was given to me that I fashioned into a pendant and wore on a chain. It began to chip on things and I decided to cast it out of silver. Compared to now I had a VERY dim idea of what to do. I found out how to make a mould out of plaster of paris and playdough. ( it sounds childish, but it worked! to a point) the mould came out great! And I practiced casting the arrow head out of lead by melting the lead on my electric stove. After getting that, I borrowed a oxy-acetelyne torch from a friend and successfully melted a few 1 troy ounce bars of .999 silver. And I poured the ‘molten’ silver into my plaster of paris mould. I gave it time to cool and separated the two halves. To my mixed amazement, it worked to a point. the top of the arrow head was completely formed, but the tip of the arrow looked like chewed bubblegum! I returned it to a mass of silver soon after! It was an embarassment!

Hot Products:Automotive ComponentsI have been doing some research online and have been turning up a little information. I have checked out www.BackyardMetalcasting.com, and have gained a little more information from the time that I have spent obsorbing what he has done. But, I don’t feel that I have enough information as to designing and constructing a furnace and foundry of my own. He talked about several different burners and furnaces. I am particurally interested in the waste oil and propane burners. I have a few questions as to the designing of both of them. Some may be obvious to some of you, but, my brain thinks too hard about some things and it can obscure the obvious from me! It happens.

Product weight from less than 1KGS to several tons

Casting process enjoys certain advantages vis-a-vis other shaping processes such as forging, welding, stamping, rolling, extruding, etc. The reasons for the success of the casting process are:

* Owing to physical properties, some metals can only be cast since they cannot be re-modelled into bars, rods, plates or other shapes.
* It’s a process highly adaptable to the requirements of mass production. Large numbers of a given casting can be produced quickly. For example; in the automotive industry there is massive production of cast engine blocks and transmission cases.
* Certain light metal alloys because of their respective strength and weakness, can be produced only as castings.
* Shows excellent bearing qualities.

Equipment including: CNC center(3 axis and 4 axis ), CNC turning lathe, milling, drilling and Tap etc. Machining of rough castings, or directly from round bar.

Casting Vs Other processes
It is fact that in some cases, the casting process must give way to other methods of manufacture, where they may be more efficient. For example, forging helps developing fiber strength and toughness in steel, machining produces smooth surfaces and dimensional accuracy not obtainable otherwise, welding provides a easy way of fabricating wrought or cast products into complex structures while stamping produce lightweight sheet metal parts.

Casting vs Forging:
It should be recognized that castings and forgings start from very similar beginnings and castings can have some very distinct advantages over other product forms, including forgings.Special Casting and Machining
